A fast, easy Superfood Breakfast for the whole family!

Growing up I’m sure we’ve all heard our mother’s say “breakfast is the most important meal of the day!” Whether we believed it or not as kids, our mothers knew what they were talking about. Breakfast rev’s up our “engines” for the day. When you eat a healthy, balanced breakfast within one hour of waking it increases your metabolism for the rest of the day helping you to burn more calories! It provides your body with the much needed proteins, complex carbohydrates and fats it needs after a long (hopefully restful) sleep and fast and gets your mind ready to take on the day ahead.
For those of you that skip breakfast or perhaps have a coffee on the way to work and grab a donut, muffin, bagel, granola bar or other “fast” poorly balanced, unhealthy breakfast food substitute, you are doing yourself a great disservice. These foods do not provide you with the vitamins, minerals, proteins, carbs and good fats your body needs to function well, keep your mind sharp or boost your metabolism and your immune system. These “fast” food choices will cause fatigue, lower your immune system and metabolism, help you gain weight and probably cause you to make poor food choices for the rest of the day! Your morning breakfast will set the stage for how you feel, look, think and will influence the food choices you make throughout the day!
I know what many of you must be thinking, “I don’t have time for breakfast”. We’ll I’m not buying it! You MUST make time. If that means setting your alarm 15 minutes earlier to fit breakfast in before you leave for work then that’s what you must do. A healthy Breakfast doesn’t take long to make. You can even make certain breakfast foods (that take a little longer to prepare) the day before and keep it in the fridge (like steal cut oats). It just takes a few minutes of planning and the right ingredients to create a healthier you!
Today I’m going to share with you my all time favourite superfood breakfast. It’s easy and fast to make, well balanced and perfect for the whole family including toddlers and kids! My kids 3 and 1 ½ have this daily and LOVE it as much and my husband and I do.
Superfood Breakfast Cereal:
NOTE: I make this as soon as I wake up and let it soak for 10 min. or longer while I get ready. As soon as I’m ready my breakfast is ready and it took no longer than 10 min. out of my morning to make and eat.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup Food for Life Ezekiel 4:9 Cereal (comes in original, flax, almond or cinnamon raisin)
Almond or Rice Milk (enough to full immerse cereal in milk)
1 scoop Chocolate or Vanilla Sunwarrior protein powder (1/2 scoop for toddlers and kids) (I use chocolate)
1-2 Tbsp Chia Seeds (1/2 – 1 tbsp for toddlers and kids)
Genestra HMF Super Powder Probiotics (for adults 12 years +) or Genestra HMF Powder Probiotics (for kids 1-12 years old)
1 drop 1000iu’s Vitamin D (I use Genestra D-Mulsion Drops – perfect for all ages)
Optional: your favourite nuts, seeds, dried or fresh fruit (bananas are great) can be added or a Tbsp of your favourite nut butter! Yummmm.
Directions:
· Place cereal in bowl, cover with almond or rice milk (add enough milk to full immerse cereal in milk).
· Add chia seeds and mix well to full immerse in milk
· Add Sunwarrior Protein Powder and gently mix in until fully combined
· Add probiotics (add in amount directed on package) and stir.
· Add in vitamin D drop (alternatively you can just take the vitamin D drop directly)
· LET IT SOAK FOR 10 MIN. – This makes the cereal softer, easier to digest and taste better!
This breakfast provides you with all the essentials your body needs. Ezekiel 4:9 is a sprouted whole grain flourless cereal that is easy to digest, and full of complex carbohydrates, protein and fiber and has no sugar!
Chia Seeds are full of Omega 3 and fiber and provide a numerous amount of amazing benefits.
Sunwarrior protein is a delicious brown rice vegan protein powder that is super easy to digest and hypoallergenic.
Probiotics are essential to your immune and digestive health and should be taken daily.
Vitamin D is recommended for everyone from babies to adults on a daily basis for overall health.
Try it, you won’t be disappointed and your body will truly thank you for the nourishment you’ve provided it. You will feel better and more vibrant if you make this part of your daily routine.
